Currency & Tipping in the Kingdom
- Currency: The Moroccan Dirham (MAD). It is a “closed currency,” meaning you can only get it inside the country. We recommend withdrawing MAD at the airport ATM upon arrival.
- Cash is King: While hotels and upscale shops take cards, you will need cash for small cafes, fuel in remote areas, and tipping.
- Tipping: Tipping is deeply ingrained in Moroccan culture.
- Guides/Mechanics: A collective tip of 100–200 MAD per day from the group is standard for exceptional service.
- Staff: 10–20 MAD for porters or waiters is appreciated.
